Description
Hydrocal FGR is used for Glass-Reinforced Gypsum (GRG) fabrication by way of Hand Lay-Up or Hand Spray-Up methods.
Properties
Hydrocal FGR is an alpha-based gypsum material that has a low water demand. This results in high strength, high density pieces that can be fabricated for a variety of architectural applications. Developed by USG, this technology consists of blending glass fibers with specially formulated Hydrocal FGR Gypsum Cement. The cement is mixed with a small amount of water to make a slurry which can be sprayed simultaneously with chopped glass fibers to form glass-reinforced gypsum.
Hydrocal FGR sets within 50 -70 mins (hand application). Develops a 3200 - 4000psi flexural strength with a density of between 103 - 112 Lb/cu.ft.
These glass-reinforced products are resilient, fire-resistant, adaptable to deep patterns, accept most coatings, help overcome fire-code problems of many plastics, and cost much less than filled polyesters. Glass-reinforced gypsum made from Hydrocal FGR has a surface that is easily decorated with most oil-base, alkyd or latex paints, and most stains, lacquers, varnishes or shellacs.
